The Dollhaus Presents:
INTRODUCING ...
by Artur Arbit
May 21st, 2005
The Dollhaus Presents Artur
Arbit an original Dollhaus artist for his second solo show. Artur Arbit's first
solo show at The Dollhaus back in November 2002 where we showed his hand drawn
posters for the music scene of Williamsburg as one of the "The Twisted Ones"
rock and experimental music promoters. You can still see these posters wheat
pasted around Bedford Avenue and other popular walls in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.
After almost two years we are proud to present Artur Arbit’s new painting
series.
There will be approximately 20 paintings in the main gallery space all works are
acrylic on canvas. His themes are classically influenced from great religious
scenes, nudes, landscapes to important political moments in history. His
Crucifixion is of a blue Jesus of unusual proportions reaching out to his
weeping crowd, the colors are vibrant and bright and the scenes are surreal and
of a dark nature. You will see The Five Musicians, The king and Queen, The
Judge, The Beggar and The Dominatrix. Massaca of The Innocent is of a speeding
horse drawn carriage full of raging men throwing babies out of the windows. The
style is exciting and full of energy and is free and spontaneous and Arbit
claims that most of his work is purely experimental and there are no planned
concepts or well planned sketches like his previous works on paper.
Arbit takes his inspiration from artists: Max Beckman, Roult, Jean Dubuffet,
Bosch and Hogarth. |
