MAIDEN

FED

THE ENTERIC ENTITY-SHE/HER COLLAGE RAP ARTIST

In Maidenfed’s collages, human is not enough. Adorned, restrained, substituted, enhanced: the body—often her own—is subject to modifications meant to ensure its survival, whether the environment is a decadent castle or a ghostly forest. In her tactile practice, the malleability of the human form comes into contact with the inevitability of decay, but refuses to fall to it. Instead, subjects transform via weaponry, steel, and bondage in order to confound defeat and death. With limitations of the flesh often altered or entirely removed, her works engage in a coversation with the specter of immortality. She simultaneously recontextualizes images of herself taken from others’ (usually male) perspectives by removing her physical  self from its prescribed photographic surroundings and allowing it to reconvene elsewhere. This reclaiming of the self through the body speaks to a desire to escape the earthly, and to create worlds of endless possibility.
